When Melanie breaks the news to Daniel that she plans to date Brady, Daniel thinks it is a joke. When he realizes she isn't kidding, he freaks out. He does not think Brady is ready for a relationship. He has just been sober for less than a year. Melanie understands that. Daniel is worried for Melanie that Brady is going to hurt her. Melanie pleads her case. Daniel reluctantly agrees not to interfere. He then leaves to find Brady. He confronts Brady. Daniel tells Brady he will not stop them from seeing each other, but if Brady hurts Melanie, he will have Daniel to answer to. Brady understands. Daniel abruptly leaves.
When Daniel arrives home, Maggie is there. He tells her he talked to Brady. Maggie can see he is upset. Daniel says he is not mad at Brady. He is mad at himself. He feels like he has let Melanie down. Maggie tells him that being a good parent is knowing when to let your kids make there own decisions. All you can do is be there for them. Daniel nods and says 'like you are for me" and hugs Maggie.
